Ginkgo Biloba is known as the herb of youth and longevity. Do you find yourself lacking in mental alertness? If you do then gingko biloba is the herb to take. It has so many benefits and is widely known as the superstar of herbs, and not surprisingly, is one of the most popular medicines around. For us varicose vein sufferers, ginkgo biloba extract contains tebonin, which is very useful in alleviating the discomfort caused by varicose veins. It can also be used to treat spider veins, and if this wasn't enough, it can even help with the itching and pain caused by varicose veins! Flavanoids, which can be found in ginkgo extract help to relax blood vessels, which in turn allows them to carry more blood. It can also act as a blood thinning agent by blocking platelet activation, so do not take ginkgo biloba if you are already using blood thinning drugs such as Warfarin. It is clear that those of us with varicose veins have poor circulation and blood flow, and if you get an injury, the platelets will try to clot, to prevent more blood from escaping, this can cause even more blockage and result in even poorer circulation. Ginkgo helps to stop this process by stopping the platelets from clotting too much. As an added benefit, ginkgo can also help to prevent bad cholesterol (LDL) from building up inside our blood vessels. LDL is a known factor for coronary heart disease. So if you have high cholesterol, it may be worth considering ginkgo. Because Ginkgo helps to improve blood flow and circulation it also has been used to treat Alzheimers disease, depression, mood disorders and memory loss, by increasing blood flow to the brain. Another benefit of ginkgo biloba is that it can improve circulation to your extremities, such as your hands and feet. I don't know about you but my hands and feet get really cold in the winter due to poor circulation, especially my feet. If a take a nice hot bath, my feet give me some pain for a couple of minutes when i jump in that bath, until they get up to temperature!! This must be a side effect of those varicose veins. With this in mind, it makes sense to give yourself a little help from mother nature doesn't it? Ginkgo has antioxidant properties which help to fight off the effects of free radicals, which are nasty things thought be linked to cancers and aging. It has also been found useful for improving sight and hearing, and has been used to treat tinnitus. The question is, does it work? Well i have used ginkgo biloba and i can tell you that there is some benefit from taking it. My circulation improved to my cold feet! As far as mental alertness and improved memory are concerned, it is difficult to tell. I am currently studying for a health degree, and my grades have improved from last year. Now i also eat a lot of salmon (about three portions per week) and have been doing for the last year, so i reckon this could be one of the reasons for my improved grades. I am a firm believer in omega 3 and its benefits. If the ginkgo has helped as well, then lucky me. Or maybe i just listened to what the teacher was saying! Overall, my varicose veins are still here, and to be honest, i don't think they have improved that much. The ginkgo biloba has improved my circulation, so from that point it may well be worth using. From my point of view, if you want to get better grades then take ginkgo and salmon and your onto a winner! If you would like to try ginkgo biloba then click here (US) or click here (UK) Rating= 6/10
